The purpose of the Academy is to provide intensive instruction in the legal obligations and policy underpinnings of the WTO and its agreements, in the context of how the WTO operates and how it relates to national governments. This non-degree course is designed to build global capacity to take advantage of the multilateral trading system, by training legal professionals, trade policy officials, members of the international business and NGO communities, academics, and others – including those from developing countries and transition economies. Academy speakers are international trade law experts, many of whom negotiated the WTO Agreements at issue. A law degree is not necessary to attend the Academy. In order to enhance each participant's experience, space is limited. The inaugural 2006 program brought nearly 60 professionals from eleven different countries to campus. In 2007, nearly 80 participants attended from 16 different nations. Both week-long programs to date have sold out, even though program capacity has been increased and we make every effort to accommodate interested participants. Therefore, early registration is recommended. Those who register early also will qualify for discounted tuition. Thank you for your interest in the Academy, and in Georgetown Law.
