A Message From the Dean ruler

Welcome to the Georgetown University Law Center web site. I'd like to tell you a bit about the Law Center.

The Law Center, located in the heart of the nation's capital, educates an exceptionally talented and diverse student body for legal practice and the pursuit of justice in our community, our country and the world. The Law Center's world-class faculty, recognized for the quality of both its scholarship and teaching, has engendered a learning environment that combines academic and theoretical excellence with a thorough grounding in practical problems and the practice of law.

The Law Center provides a world of opportunities. We offer more courses and more seminars on domestic and international topics than any other law school in the country. Our program in clinical education, ranked among the best in the nation, offers a wide range of legal assistance to needy members of our community—including domestic abuse and child cases, political asylum cases, and environmental justice. Our location puts us within walking distance of Congress, the Supreme Court, and the Department of Justice.

We have recently opened two new buildings on our campus. The Hotung International Law Building houses an international and comparative law library and state-of-the-art classrooms and seminar rooms. Georgetown's Supreme Court Institute is also located in the new building; in our new moot court room, lawyers in more than half of the cases that will be heard by the Supreme Court this year will practice their arguments before panels of law school faculty and leading Washington advocates.

The new Sport and Fitness Center offers a wide range of exercise equipment, a regulation basketball court, a swimming pool, and racquetball courts.

We strongly believe that this combination of people, programs, and facilities has created a learning experience that is stimulating, supportive, and challenging—a unique community equally committed to academic excellence and service to others.

I hope you enjoy your virtual visit here and that you will visit the campus in person.

With regards,
