Admissions Information
Georgetown Law reviews transfer applications for both Spring and Fall semester admission. Transfer applicants, who have completed only one year at an ABA-accredited law school, are admitted to the second year class on a space available basis.
Competitive candidates are typically in the top 15% of their current law school class with an A-/B+ average.
Transfer applicants are considered for either the Full-time or Part-time Division (or both). Georgetown Law will accept for transfer a maximum of 30 semester hours earned at a student's previous institution (the number of semester hours earned by our first-year day students). Credit is not usually granted for law school courses beyond the first year.

Application Requirements
Application Checklist
Transfer applicants must submit all of the following materials:
- Completed application form. Please check the appropriate boxes on the front of the application.
- Non-refundable $80 application fee.
- Current law school transcript (through Summer term for Spring entry or through Spring term for Fall entry).
- Georgetown Law JD Transfer Certification Form. Note: This form must be sent directly to Georgetown Law, not through LSDAS.
- Recommendation from a law school faculty member.
- Personal statement which should include the reasons for requesting the transfer.
- Resume.
- LSDAS report (see below).
All applicants must register with LSDAS. Georgetown Law will not accept copies of LSDAS reports from the applicant's current law school. Once an applicant registers with LSDAS and submits an application (either through LSAC or a mailed paper application) the Admissions Office will automatically request a copy of the applicant's LSDAS report.
Applicants may send their letter(s) of recommendation and transcripts either through LSDAS or directly to the Georgetown Law Admissions Office.
Note: Georgetown Law only requires one letter of recommendation, although additional letters will be accepted. Consequently, an application is considered "complete" after receipt of all required materials and one letter of recommendation and will be forwarded to the Committee at that time. If you would like the Committee to consider additional recommendations before rendering a decision, please contact the Admissions Office in advance at admis@law.georgetown.edu and ask the Committee to hold your application until any additional recommendation(s) are received.
Early Action
If the Georgetown Law receives your completed application by March 16, 2009, your admissions decision will be mailed to you by early May. To be eligible for the Early Action Program, Georgetown Law must receive your complete first semester, first-year grades from your law school. Second semeser grades are not required to apply under Early Action.
Early Action acceptances are not binding on the applicants.
Regular Action
Regular Action admissions decisions are generally not made before July. All files are reviewed on a rolling basis, therefore, we encourage applicants to complete their files as quickly as possible. To be eligible for the Regular Action Program, Georgetown Law must receive complete first and second semester, first-year grades from your law school. Although the deadline is June 15, applicants are encouraged to apply by June 1.
